A few mportant things about singing.

I think it is always good to take stock of how good it is to freely sing away till our hearts are content, nothing better!!  However, being part of a choir its not just singing on our own but rather singing collectively with other people and in our case it’s 150 strong; and so there are a few things that are important when it comes to singing in general but more importantly within a choir.

The link below highlights a few important points for us all to ponder over.

We have just passed week 6 and sounding incredible, gearing up for our summer gig and a few other things in the pipeline.  Keep and eye out for announcements in the coming weeks.

We are also pleased to announce that the wonderful Mara Simpson will be supporting us at or summer gig, how exciting!  Tickets will be on sale on 5th June!

Rock ‘n’ Roll!

Well our last Choir Extra gig proved to be as brilliant as we thought it would be!  Reef were fantastic and we loved every minute of performing with them, I think we’re all still on a high from it!

Although there was only a small number of us due to venue logistics, we missed the 150 voice sound wall, we still packed a punch and we can’t wait for the next Choir Extra adventure!

A massive thank you to the brilliant Reef for inviting us to perform together!!

Keep and eye and an ear out for upcoming announcements of where we will be performing and how to get tickets!

Rehearsals for our Summer Gig are coming along great, we’re sounding so great and stronger than ever and we can’t wait to perform again at The Old Market!

Reef Extra!

The summer term’s new songs are taking shape beautifully with a stunning arrangement from an old classic that is sounding incredible; it’s going to sound amazing at the gig!  As will all the other songs that we have in store.  We will give some clues in the coming months as to what to expect!

Aside form our main choir we also have Choir Extra where we rub shoulders and sing along side other wonderful singers.  With this Choir Extra escapade we are singing along side the rock-tastic Reef on their sell out gig on Friday 11th May at the Concorde 2 – we simply cannot wait !

Put your hands on, put your hands on, put your hands on, put your…………

Extra Extra, read all about it!

Last Monday we had the greatest honour of singing, not only at the Komedia in Brighton but alongside the wonderfully talented Mara Simspon and her band. The place was packed out and we all sung our hearts out together. It was a very special Night! Mara had the experience recorded and so we will share the footage when we get it.

There is more Choir Extra coming up so keep your eyes peeled for announcements soon!

We’re going into week three of the new summer term of both the regular choir and the brand new afternoon choir.  Both are shaping up to be amazing!

The sun is starting to shine, there’s leaves on the trees and we’re back doing what we love the most- singing; our summer concerts are going to be great!

We’re Back!

Last week saw the return of the choir after our Easter break, all fresh and wide eyed; ready for the new term!

Can singing boost your well-being?

We all know the difficulties and technical struggle we face while rehearsing and practising the songs for our up coming gig but did you know that singing is good for your health?

Singing within a choir brings happiness and it has also been found that singing within a choir synchronises choir members heartbeats when they sing together which brings about a calming effect that can be as beneficial to our health as Yoga!  This can deliver a host of physical and emotional benefits, including improved breathing, posture, mind-set, confidence and self-esteem.

Which brings me on to our charity of choice this term and that is the wonderful Grow, a charity that has been running for over 5 years that welcomes people from all over Sussex to get outdoors together, reconnect with nature and improve their well-being; the same benefits as singing in a choir.

If you are coming to our gig we will have buckets for you to kindly deposit any loose change that you may have that will contribute to this wonderful and much needed charity.  You can also get all the information regarding Grow by clicking the link below.

Din, din, din, din, din , din………..

6 weeks in and we have tears, tears and pain, oh and some disco thrown in too; there’ll be crying at the discotheque!

For those of you coming to our gig on March 25th this is shaping up to being our best yet. This week Vanessa was pushing us technically to deliver on a song so massively recognisable it will set fire to that reminicent part of your brain that it may bring on a tear or two, a song so ethereal it will give you goosebumps and I have to confess will take your breath away!

There’s so many clues to what song it is we are singing in there but if you’re struggling here’s another clue.  Click the link below for the amazing vocals of Elizabeth Fraser and the Cocteau twins singing Carolyn’s Fingers, boy can she sing and yes she is singing in English!  What’s so amazing about her voice is that she is fearless with it and able to make meaningless lyrics sound so poignant, an effortless story teller.
