Summer gig’s raising awareness for charities

We are so proud to be supporting two charities that have helped choir members this term. We’ll be singing our little hearts out at the summer gigs and hope we can raise a fair bit of money for them.

Hassocks will be raising funds and awareness for a Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research charity. This carries out important research into all forms of cancer, their potential cures, and in particular blood cancers.

Brighton will be helping a charity called Connect. Connect is a charity for people living with aphasia, a communication disability which usually occurs after stroke or brain injury.

Both charities do amazing work. To find out more you can click on the links below.

leukemiaA monthly donation allows us to plan our research ensuring the impact we can have is as big as possible.

Health benefits of singing in a choir

“Singing from your heart is like fresh air that heals you again from the pollution around you” – Ahmed Farrag

We all know how good it feels when we sing together in choir. There really is no other feeling like it!

Singing releases endorphins into the bloodstream and these wonderful little molecules give you a ‘lifted’ feeling and help reduce stress. Perfect at the end of a hard days work!

Another stress buster is the controlled and deep breathing that singing requires. It allows more oxygen in, meaning singing is an aerobic activity. Breathing techniques are also used in meditation and so are known to promote calmness.

If you didn’t know it already, when you sing in a choir, your heartbeats all start to beat at the same time, you synchronise. Such a lovely thought.

“If everyone started off the day singing, just think how happy they’d be.”
― Lauren MyracleShine
