Singing is good for your health!

Sep28

We all knew that singing is an uplifting activity, but did you know that singing can boost feel-good chemicals in the brain!  The BBC’s ‘Trust me I’m a Doctor’ discusses the benefits singing and how it can help with mental health issues, depression, mothers with post-natal depression; the Dr even says the benefits of singing in a group outstrip the mental health benefits of going to the gym!  Basically, singing gives the brain a great mental workout! We can all certainly vouch for that!

Why not experience that for yourself?  Come and sing together with us, on your own or bring your friends and family along to our second outing to the pub!

After the success of the first one, Soul of the City Choir IN THE PUB is back!  On the 18th of October at The North Laine Brewhouse at 7.30pm till 10pm we are gathering again to learn a brand-new song in 2/3 part harmony with a live guitarist!  Get your tickets using the link below!

Last time we sold out completely and so don’t leave it too late!

Every term we have the pleasure of supporting a local charity and this term it is the fabulous Brighton & Hove Food Partnership, a fantastic charity helping and supporting the vulnerable throughout the city.  The guys there have set up a crowdfunding page to help raise funds for a well needed catering dishwasher and there are just a few days left to support their #SepTenner fundraising campaign. Over £1,500 has already been raised towards the dishwasher which will help volunteers escape endless washing up and focus on supporting participants.  Here’s a link to their crowdfunding page if you want to donate too!

And we’re back!

Sep21

Welcome back!

What a great start to our new autumn term with not only our well established Tuesday choir but a brand new Monday choir too!  There are still a few spaces left for the Monday choir so if anyone knows anyone that wants to join a fantastic choir then please get them to sign up here!

We’re off to a flying start with more fantastic songs that Vanessa has arranged for us, we are even moving and clapping on our second week, next there will be full on dance routines (maybe not!).

Last month saw the start of our Pub Choir which was a great success, learning Tainted Love in three part harmony and with our own live guitarist!  It was so good we are going to do it again, keep the 18th of October free as we are getting together again at the North Laine Brewhouse for another night of singing in the pub!

Keep your eyes peeled for tickets very soon!

Choir’s out for summer!

Jul19

Well there we are, our gig on Sunday has come and gone and now we are on our summer break.  However, rest assured Vanessa is taking the time to make next term and our Christmas concerts just as good, if not better!

This term was as challenging as the last one but what a wonder to perform to all you people that came to see us on the World Cup Final and Wimbledon Final day!  So a big thank you to all that came out to watch and support us!  We had a wonderful time performing for you as did Choir Extra performing with the incredible Mara Simpson; the whole day was simply magical!

We are also pleased to let you know that between you all you managed to raise over £300 for The Brighton and Hove Food Partnership, so a massive well done and thank you from all the guys there and all of us here at the choir!

That takes us on to our next terms!  Yes, plural!  We have two sessions coming up:

Our brand new Monday session – 10th September 6.15pm at St Mary Magdalen’s School, Spring St, Brighton

Plus our usual Tuesday session- 11th September 7.30pm at St Paul’s School, St Nicholas Road, Brighton.

Sign up here on our website or send us an email to [email protected]

Come and join us on either a Monday or Tuesday or indeed both!  Remember that there is a free taster session for all new members to the choir!

From all of us here at Soul of the City Choir, enjoy the sunshine, have a wonderful summer break and we look forward to singing together with you in the next term!
